It would have been very expedient for Daniel and his friends to simply allow for a divided allegiance. Their undivided allegiance to Yaweh, however, allows God to reveal Himself to the pagan world around them. They neither condemned those around them nor fudged on their conviction and this set the stage for God’s self-revelation. What are the opportunities that we now have in a post Christian world that we might not have been afforded in a “church as usual” American world? How do we have the hearts of servants while having the conviction of leaders in this work?
